History
Georgia 4-H was established in 1904 in Newton County by G.C. Adams, the Superintendent of Schools at the time. It began as the Girls Canning Club and the Boys Corn Club, offering hands-on learning experiences for young people.
In 1907, the first club emblem was introduced-a three-leaf clover symbolizing Head, Heart, and Hands. By 1911 a fourth leaf was added to represent Health, giving rise to the iconic 4-H clover still used today
When the Smith-Lever Act was passed on May 8. 1914-creating the national Cooperative Extension Service-Georgia youth were already actively involved in various project clubs under the 4-H banner. These clubs were largely guided by dedicated volunteer leaders who helped shape the program's early success.
